MARGAO: Upset with the police and the Margao Muncipal Council (MMC) for failing to recover Rs 50,000 that went missing four months ago, the MMC councillors on Monday demanded that the money should be recovered from the concerned person immediately.
However, Damodar Shirodkar, Chairperson of the civic body, said that it was the responsibility of the police to investigate the matter as the complaint was filed long before.
Speaking to reporters, Councillor Mahesh Amonkar said that in order to avoid more such incidents, it is high time that the amount should be recovered from the concerned officer, who was handling the counter on the day of the incident.
“Rs 50,000 going missing during office hours is a serious issue. MMC has filed a police complaint, but the culprit is still moving scot free. Now, almost four months have passed and there are no signs of either arrest of the accused nor recovery of the missing amount”, Amonkar said.
The councillor on Monday wrote a letter to the Chief Officer of MMC, demanding recovery of the missing amount.
Responding to the issue, Chairperson Damodar Shirodkar said that he had already brought this notice to the chief officer to follow up the matter with the police.
“We had already handed over the footage of the CCTV cameras to the police. We will also monitor the CCTV cameras regularly in order to avoid similar incidents of missing cash from occurring,” Shirodkar informed.
He too was of the opinion that the missing amount needs to be recovered, may it be from the concerned official.
