VASCO: Four shops near the Vasco fish market were gutted in fire on Tuesday.
The incident is reported to have occurred in the wee hours of Tuesday wherein 4 shops namely a footwear shop, pan shop, juice centre and a hair cutting salon were gutted.
It took nearly two hours for the fire fighters to douse the fire. Since the shops are located in the middle of market areas, the fire officials called on for backup from Mormugao Port Trust and Verna fire station. The fire fighters have estimated the loss to be around Rs 2 lakh.
At 5.30 am, some eyewitnesses saw flames rising from the shops and informed the fire station. The shop owners were later informed about the incident.
The reason is yet to be ascertained but a short circuit is suspected to be the cause for the fire.
