CURCHOREM: Curchorem Police Station has featured in the list of top ten police stations in the country released by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) New Delhi. The Police Station has ranked 10th in the list.
Recently Goa government too awarded the Police Station as the second best in the State, while awarding first and third place to Panjim and Bicholim police stations respectively.
According to Curchorem PI Ravindra Dessai, the police station was established soon after Goa’s liberation in 1964 and housed in a small house at near the Ambedkar Circle before it was shifted in the existing building in 1979.
“The survey team was deputed by the MHA headed by an assessor from Quality Council of India, Ashish Kumar Mishra and visited the police station, collected some information including photographs and inspected the basic amenities provided to staff and the public”, informed Dessai.
As per the current records of the police station, the crime detection rate is 95 percent till December 20. A total of 71 cases have been detected/solved out of 73 FIRs registered this year besides the three murder cases which were reported this year have also been solved.
The Police Station was upgraded in 1999 and the then PI Tony Fernandes was appointed as first police inspector. The present staff strength of this police station is 71 including one police inspector and two police sub-inspectors. The places from three talukas of Quepem, Sanguem and Dharbonda like Kalay, Kirlapal-Dabal, part of Assolda, Xelvona-Oddar, Capxem, Kakoda besides Sanvordem and Curchorem come under the jurisdiction of this police station where the population of this area as per 2011 census is 56,500 in the area of 184 square kilometers.
It is learnt that for the purpose of better administration the functioning has been divided into seven beats consisting of city beat, Kakoda, Xelvona, Sanvordem, Cormonem, Dabal and Kalay and one police outpost at Cacora Industrial Estate which helps them to detect and solve the cases on priority basis.
Congratulating the Curchorem police, Power Minister and local MLA Nilesh Cabral said that Curchorem police team led by PI Ravindra Dessai is working hard to maintain peace, law and order situation in the area. “They not only maintain good relation with people in general but with senior citizens too”, Cabral said.
Speaking to Herald, Senior Citizen Forum (SCF) President Rajender Fondekar said that Curchorem police are cooperating with them with great regard and humble way. “If any parent/s complains to them under Maintenance Act they immediately act and interact with the children and get the matter solved. They also visit aged parents house to house regularly to know their grievances and attend our functions in a very friendly manner”, Fondekar said.
Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council Chairperson Felix Fernandes congratulated them and said that they deserved the award as they are doing very good job in maintaining law and order situation in the area.
