The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to release the provisional answer key for the UGC NET June 2026 examination soon on its official website. The delay has left thousands of candidates waiting to calculate their probable scores and plan their next steps for research and academic admissions.
The UGC NET June 2026 examination was conducted on June 22, 23, 24, 25, 29 and 30, followed by a retest on July 5. More than a month has passed since the examination concluded, with candidates repeatedly seeking an update on the provisional answer key and the result timeline.

Responding to concerns over the delay, an NTA source told NDTV that the June session involved examinations across 87 subjects, making it a major logistical exercise. The source also said that the results would be released soon.
The provisional answer key will be accompanied by the question papers attempted by candidates and their respective response sheets. These documents will allow applicants to compare their recorded answers with the official answers and estimate their likely scores.
Candidates will also be provided an opportunity to challenge answers they believe are incorrect. According to the examination guidelines, objections must be submitted through the designated online objection window within the prescribed period. Applicants will have to provide appropriate justification and supporting evidence for every challenge.
A non-refundable processing fee of Rs 200 will be charged for each answer challenged. The NTA has clarified that only challenges submitted through the official objection link, along with the required fee and supporting justification, will be considered.
Objections submitted without adequate evidence or justification, after the deadline, or through any other medium will not be accepted.
The UGC NET examination is conducted to determine eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), appointment as Assistant Professor, and admission to PhD programmes in universities and colleges across India.
The delay has prompted growing frustration among aspirants. Several candidates have taken to social media to question why the answer key has not yet been released despite the examination being conducted more than 40 days ago.
One candidate compared the timeline with the NEET examination, pointing out that NEET is conducted for millions of students across India and abroad, while UGC NET is a computer-based examination conducted within India for more than seven lakh candidates.

Once the provisional answer key is released, candidates will have only a limited period to submit objections. The NTA will subsequently examine the challenges before preparing the final answer key and declaring the results.
UGC NET certificates will be issued after the results are announced. Depending on the candidate’s qualification, the certificate will indicate eligibility for JRF and Assistant Professor, Assistant Professor and PhD admission, or PhD admission alone.
Aspirants are now awaiting an official announcement from the NTA regarding the exact release date of the provisional answer key.
