PONDA: The officials of legal metrology department at Ponda seized goods worth Rs 70,000 during raid on four shops at Marcel, on Thursday.
The raided shops include a private servicing centre, an electrical shop, a general store and a scrap dealer shop. The owners of these shops were booked for offences of violating commodity packaging rules; selling goods at a price more than the maximum retail price; for selling fans and other electrical appliances of sham manufacturers and selling Chinese goods without the price label. The raid was conducted following complaints from customers including a motorcyclist.
Legal Metrology Inspector D N Mapari informed that at the servicing centre a pin used in motorcycles worth Rs 10 was sold at Rs 80; a block piston with maximum price of Rs 1732 was billed at Rs 2800; two bearings with maximum retail price of Rs 321 were charged at Rs 780. The legal metrology department seized all the spare parts from the servicing centre.
Inspector Mapari said that for the first offence, the department would levy fines and in case of repeat offences the offenders will be prosecuted.
Besides Mapari, the raiding team included Anil Naik, Tukaram Kudalkar, Jayesh Naik and Gurunath Naik.
