MARGAO: The diligent works by the four different teams helped the Maina Curtorim Police to solve the murder of mystery of Manora, Raia resident Francisco Carvalho (32), even though initially there was no cooperation from the public including the villagers of the victim.
In fact, Joao Paul Fernandes, in whose Carlotas Bar, the murder was committed initially denied that there was any brawl in his bar and had even washed the blood that had dripped on the floor of his bar.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Raju Raut Dessai who headed the investigations, had four different teams with each of them assigned specific tasks checking the CCTV footage of the area, gathering information, etc.
In all, the police personnel viewed the coverage from around 60 CCTV cameras to know what had happened and where the crime was committed. The finding of a vital clue which was Francisco’s shoes narrowed the scene of offence and thus began intensive data collection and surveillance.
It was during this period that the blood stains were detected at the bar and the owner when confronted with it admitted to the incident and even disclosed the name of one person involved in the murder which he had noted down because he did not clear his total bill that night.
While the police have arrested four persons including Vilton Coutinho, who is a tiatrist and whose producer had a tough time to hold his show on Sunday with a last minute replacement, they have identified the other two who are absconding and are confident of nabbing them by Wednesday.
A special team was prepared to assist PI Pravin Kumar Vast to investigate the case. This included police personnel from Quepem, Margao and Vasco Sub Divisions and had a constable from Curchorem who is an expert on viewing CCTV footage, and an expert on interrogation from Verna and an expert in data collection from Airport police stations besides the in charge of all police stations in Margao sub division.
Police Inspector Ravi Dessai from the airport police station got the lead when he discovered the first clue that helped focus the investigation to a particular area.
Besides, Constable Avinash Naik from Curchorem Police Station gave the much needed technical support.
Superintendent of Police South Arvind Gawas was all praise for Raju Raut Dessai for supervising the investigation meticulously by being on the field and staying awake for two continuous nights to solve what initially appeared to be a “blind case”.
