PONDA: Travelling along the new four lane road at Farmagudi-Dhavlim appears to be a challenge of sorts for motorists plying along the route as fourth accident was reported on Monday morning along the route since its inauguration.
On Monday morning, while negotiating the sharp turn, a truck laden with plastic items was proceeding from Farmagudi to Dhavlim when it lost control and damaged the divider.
The impact was such that the vehicle veered towards the wrong side. However the driver had a lucky escape.
The driver claimed that the sharp turn along the four lane road is difficult to negotiate. The axle of the vehicle was damaged in the accident.
It is pertinent to note that the locals before the road inauguration have been complaining to the authorities with regards to the faulty design and have demanded the straitening of the curve. With this being the fourth accident reported at the spot, earlier three trucks went off the road while negotiating the sharp turn.
Blaming the NH officials for the faulty road design, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik said he had raised the issue in past but no action has been taken. The four lane road at Kerya-Khandepar is constructed without proper planning.
A local Arun Gudekar said The sharp turn on this road is difficult to negotiate for heavy vehicles. Nowhere on a highway such 90 degree sharp turn exist. He said this is the fourth accident at the spot. The issue was discussed at the Bandora gram sabha even before the inauguration of the road but the authorities are not bothered about people’s safety.
Blaming the NH officials for the faulty design, he claimed that they have not taken any steps to improve this accident prone sharp turn.
