FPS owners seek remedial measures; to file writ petition in HC

MARGAO: The All Goa Consumer Co-operative Society and Fair Price Shop Owners’ Association members at the general body meeting on Sunday decided to write to the government officials explaining their woes and seeking remedial measures while at the same time they decided to file a writ petition before the High Court.
They Association members said the government was supposed to ensure door step delivery of material at the fair price shops. However, the fair price shop owners have to make arrangements to get the material not to disappoint the ration cardholders.
The government has also failed to implement computerisation of the public distribution system due to which various other issues of the staff employed by the fair price shop owners including their wages are hanging fire.
The members decided to write to the Director of Consumer and Civil Supplies and to the Chief Secretary regarding the problems faced by them requesting the authorities to address these grievances to make fair price shop management a viable proposition.
Meanwhile, it was also decided to file the writ petition to be filed before the High Court to seek relief from their problems and for this members were asked to contribute Rs 4,000 to meet the legal expenses.
President Joaquim Fernandes convened the meeting, general secretary Gandhi Henriques read out the report and treasurer Priyanka Mangueshkar read out the statement of accounts.
