Fr Bismark: GMC awaits forensic report from Hyd

PANJIM: The Goa Medical College (GMC) forensic team that conducted the second autopsy on Father Bismark Dias' body on Sunday is awaiting the chemical analysis report from Hyderabad before reaching a conclusion on the cause of his death.

Following demands from Fr Bismark’s family and social activists, who suspected foul play in his death, the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) ordered a second autopsy. The first post mortem report on Saturday stated that the cause of death was asphyxia due to drowning. The second autopsy was conducted by a panel of three forensic experts headed by HoD Dr Edmundo Rodrigues.
Activist Sabina Martins, who was present at GMC along with Fr Bismark’s family, stated, “The forensic team initially said that death was due to drowning, but now they are open to other possibilities. The HoD said that they are not ruling out anything.”
She added that the autopsy report would be made available to family on Monday and that the doctors want to wait for the report of the viscera, which is sent to CFSL, Hyderabad, for chemical analysis. She also said that Old Goa police have not taken anyone into custody so far.
