Francis charged in Chandor Cross desecration case

After being discharged in the earlier desecration cases, Francis Pereira finally received a setback in the Tariyalo Khuris desecration case when Judge Narayan Amonkar rejected his application on Thursday.

MARGAO: After being discharged in the earlier desecration cases, Francis Pereira finally received a setback in the Tariyalo Khuris desecration case when Judge Narayan Amonkar rejected his application on Thursday.

Charges have been framed against Francis under Sections 295, 297 and 427 of the IPC.

The matter has now been fixed for trial on January 30. The  witnesses including the complainant Pascoal Dias and two other panchas will appear before the court for trial.

It may be recalled that the incident occurred on intervening night of June 6-7, 2017 near Kushawati Bridge, Cotta-Chandor wherein the accused Francis, according to the complaint, allegedly desecrated the Holy Cross namely “Tariyalo khuris” by using hammer and Maruti Omni car GA-09-D-1782.

Meanwhile, Francis has been discharged in the Chandor Alma Khuris case.

Judge Nilima Kankonkar accepted the application of Francis in the Chandor Alma Khuris case and discharged him. This is the 11th case in which Francis has been discharged.
