BICHOLIM: Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza on Sunday hit out at Congress for raising the issue of religion and communalism, while avoiding all other issues.
Addressing a public meeting organised at Shivaji Ground, Bicholim, D’Souza said: “When elections come, Congress always uses the issue of religion and communalism. It should be noted that Congress is communal, as we know that during the Congress rule in the State, many Christian leaders were arrested and late Matanhy Saldanha was even debarred from speaking in the assembly, as he was speaking the truth.”
“Congress never talks on some of the major issues that haunt politics including corruption and development,” charged D’Souza.
D’Souza also came down heavily on Congress for following family politics. “Whether in State or at the Centre, Congress knows only family politics. But, it is only in BJP that even a person with OBC background could become the prime ministerial candidate,” he said.
“Goans are educated and they know who is right and who is wrong and there is no doubt that BJP will win both the seats,” he added.
Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said the Congress always used minority against BJP during elections, but during this elections the minorities are also with their party.
“BJP is the party of the common masses. All the schemes launched by BJP went to the common men, while the Congress was unable to come up even with a single scheme for the benefit of the common men in the State,” said Parsekar.
Art and Culture Minister Dayanand Mandrekar, St Andre MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh and Sanquelim Dr Pramod Sawant, ZP member Shilpa Naik, Anil Hoble and several other prominent persons from Bicholim Municipal Council and panchayat were present at the meeting.
