CANACONA: The government may have officially notified some open spaces as ‘parking lots’ in Chaudi town, but some shopkeepers have reacted with disdain and refuse to adhere to the notified parking lots.
With motorists rushing to make their purchases at the weekly bazaar at Chaudi, some shopkeepers were seen attempting to prevent other vehicles from parking at the newly notified parking lots.
The aggrieved shopkeepers even tried to turn away some motorists and two-wheelers riders who came to park their vehicles at the officially notified ‘parking lots’.
“Some shopkeepers were so arrogant that as soon as they noticed a four-wheeler entering a four-wheeler parking lot, they would rush out and stand in the open parking space, to block the arrival of other vehicles,” remarked a motorist.
“Some others tried other options to reserve their space in the designated parking lots. While some shopkeepers parked their cars in a two-wheeler parking lot, others parked their two-wheelers in a four-wheeler parking lot, in order to deliberately prevent other motorists from using the parking lot,” the motorist added.
Heated arguments were also witnessed between the shopkeepers and motorists over these new notified parking lots.
Motorists were also irked that the traffic policemen posted along the highway at Chaudi town did little to resolve the issue and some motorists were even seen arguing with the traffic police and other authorities for failing to enforce the notified parking lots in the town.
