Cuncolim: Cuncolim’s noted freedom fighter and famous Criminal lawyer Adv Gilman Fernandes died on Friday, October 16. The funeral took place the same evening at Cuncolim.
Gilman was associated with Azad Gomantak Dal and other associations, which were fighting for Goa’s liberation. He played a vital role in Goa’s liberation movement and was a frontline warrior when he was only a student.
He began fighting for Goa’s freedom from Mumbai and later in Goa against the Portuguese atrocities.
Gilman was very active in politics during his early days. He had also contested the Assembly elections in Cuncolim Constituency on a MGP ticket. Gilman was honoured by Goa Government on ‘Kranti Din’ and also by various associations. The Cuncolim Chieftains Memorial Committee (CCMC) had felicitated him for his contribution to Goa’s liberation movement.
CCMC President Oscar Martin and members, AVC Social and Cultural Association have sent condolences messages to Gilman’s bereaved family.
