PANJIM: Restaurants in Morjim, Mandrem and Ashvem will go silent on Sunday in solidarity with French national Morgan Reinforth (40) who died in an accident at Morjim on Saturday morning.
Reinforth was in Goa on a business visa and running a French restaurant in Ashvem.
According to Pernem police he died after his scooter collided with a car at Dabholkarwada in Morjim. Police said Reinforth was travelling towards Ashvem from Morjim while the car was going in the opposite direction when the accident occurred.
People from Morjim said villagers ran to rescue Reinforth while the occupants of car, who also were foreigners, fled from the spot. Sources said locals managed to manually lift the car and pull out Reinforth who was still alive but in a serious condition.
Their call for ambulance did not succeed as it was attending another emergency call. Aware of the gravity of the situation, locals rushed Reinforth in a private vehicle to the hospital and at Chopdem managed to get the 108 ambulance. The ambulance team declared him dead.
Sources said the car involved in the accident was registered in the name of a local and was on the wrong side of the road. Pernem Police have registered an offence and are investigating the case.
