PANJIM: Frequent calls from Goa to Pakistan prompted the Central intelligence agency to look for a suspected Pakistani living in the State. On Tuesday, Calangute Police detained a 27-year-old illegal immigrant from Pakistan and lodged her at a detention centre in Mapusa to deport her back to her country of origin.
Herald has learnt through sources that the intelligence agency had alerted Goa Police about calls to Pakistan, which led to a massive hunt in the northern belt. The local intelligence team further developed inputs to find that a woman hailing from the bordering country was staying in a rented villa at Candolim, along with her Indian woman partner.
Thereafter both were thoroughly interrogated on the purpose of their stay in Goa. However, nothing suspicious has so far been revealed.
“The Pakistani and her Indian partner from Delhi apparently befriended on a social network. They decided to elope from their respective homes and the Pakistani woman was asked to reach Kathmandu. The duo reportedly ran away to Goa and hired a villa at Candolim,” the source said.
The couple survived on the earnings of the Delhi woman, who changed jobs since their stay from May 2020. While more details are awaited, it is also learnt that Goa Police’s FRRO has contacted the Indian Embassy in Pakistan to ascertain the identity of the detained woman, to initiate the process of her deportation.
The local police are verifying whether the villa was rented to tenants by following the mandatory procedures. Several people are being questioned.
