PONDA: Unseasonal rains accompanied by high-velocity winds for past several days has led to tree falling on electric lines and caused power failures at Kavlem, forcing locals to spend sleepless nights.
“There are frequent power failures for the past several days. On four occasions there was no power for the whole night. We have spent sleepless nights due to scorching heat,” said locals.
The locals suggested underground cabling to solve the problem. Since monsoon is round the corner the locals want Electricity Department finished of essential repairs works at transformers, cut trees that leaning over electric poles or wires and replace weak power lines that snaps even during gusty wind prior to monsoon.
When contacted, the officials at Curti Power Sub-Station said all efforts are being taken for continuous power supply amid pre-monsoon repairs works however, in case of natural calamity or stormy and cyclonic winds the trees fall on electric lines in jungle areas as well as residential areas and at roadside, which lead to power failures.
