MARGAO: Village panchayat Davorlim-Dicarpale on Wednesday were upset over the frequent transfers of the secretaries and alleged that it was hampering the smooth functioning panchayat functioning.
Sarpanch Hereculano Niasso, in the presence of other panch members, informed reporters that they witnessed transfer of two secretaries within a period of ten days, besides sudden transfer of the office clerk.
“We are unable to understand the way in which the Directorate of Panchayats is issuing transfer orders of the secretaries. This panchayat, dominated by the population of scheduled tribes, witnessed transfers of panchayat secretaries twice within a span of ten days,” he informed.
The Sarpanch said they had no objection over the transfers of the secretaries, but frequent transfers cannot be accepted as it hampers the panchayat work.
“How are we going to function and carry out the works when panchayat secretaries are transferred within a short period of time, besides the sudden transfer of the clerk has further worsened the functioning of the panchayat in the last few days,” said Niasso.
“We request the concerned MLA, besides Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho and the Chief Minister to intervene into the matter so that panchayat functioning is not hampered,” the Sarpanch stated.
Menino Colaso, panch member said that maybe the government is trying to pressure the panchayat body in order to dislodge the ruling side.
“We all are united and will not fall prey to the pressure tactics of the government if intended to dislodge the ruling group. There should be some reasons for immediate transfers of the panchayat secretaries. It looks like the government doesn’t want smooth functioning of the panchayats,” he alleged.
