From Monday, MMC to start drive against illegal fish sale, plastic

MARGAO: As soon as the new Chief Officer assumed the office of Margao Municipal Council, the administration has decided to start a drive against the illegal sale of fish by the roadsides. The drive will begin on Monday.

Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes informed that whoever is selling fish illegally their fish will be confiscated and supplied to shelter homes and homes for the aged. 

“There is a designated place to sell fish and the vendors pay fees to the MMC. However, these roadside vendors don’t pay anything to us and are conducting business illegal,” he said. 

Along with the action against illegal fish sale, the MMC has also decided to take action against the use of plastic which he said was kept on hold due to various reasons. Parallelly, the MMC has taken up the cleaning of wards.

The Chief Officer said that the toning of administration which was much needed for the MMC has started and held a meeting with the staff recently. 

He said that the small works with the MMC have to happen in three days. One of the first promises the Chief Officer made is simplification of the process to speed up issuance of various certificates.

“The birth certificates correction, the procedure for persons with Goan origin will be further simplified. Data collections of the street vendors, whose business suffered due to COVID-19 pandemic. Rs 10,000 will be given to them under the PM SVANidhi Scheme as loan,” informed Fernandes. 

This scheme is especially for the street vendors who suffered a loss due to COVID-19.

He has also requested the public to check their survey status whether they have been covered in the survey carried out by urban local bodies. 

Chief Officer has urged the public if not surveyed they can still get it done during the resurvey.
