MARGAO: Frustrated at the Public Works Department for not reacting to repeated reminders to paint the speed breaker at a crucial junction that was causing accidents, Aquem Baixo Panchayat members led by Sarpanch Siddesh Bhagat painted the speed breaker on Saturday.
The speed breaker located after the Rawanfond bridge at the junction of the road going to the village from the Margao was becoming a threat to motorists as the paint had totally peeled away and it could not be identified particularly in the night.
“Many people have met with an accident due to the speed breaker and we were after the PWD to paint it with no response absolutely,” said Siddesh while demanding that the government instead of spending crores of rupees on big projects would do well to attend to these simple but crucial matters.
Incidentally the painting of the speed breaker cost the panchayat less than Rs 500 as it only required two cans of paint.
