Fugitive receptionist caught in Himachal after theft in Candolim

CALANGUTE: Amit Jha, originally from West Bengal, who had been on the run after committing a theft of a laptop, iPhone, another mobile device, and Rs 40,000, while being employed as a receptionist at a guesthouse in Candolim, has been apprehended in Himachal Pradesh.

According to Calangute police, a complaint was filed by the guesthouse manager at Arradi, Candolim, on January 30, reporting the disappearance of Jha after the alleged theft on January 13. Despite attempts to reach him, Jha remained elusive.

Acting on the complaint, Calangute police initiated legal proceedings under Section 381 of the Indian Penal Code. Subsequent investigations revealed Jha’s whereabouts in Himachal Pradesh, prompting authorities to coordinate with local law enforcement for his apprehension. 

Jha was detained and returned to Calangute for further questioning. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
