PANJIM: Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao, on Tuesday, demanded that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should deliver on promise of providing jobs to children of freedom fighters.
Sawant claimed that so far 357 children of freedom fighters have been given jobs and only 40 children were awaiting government jobs.
Sawant said that he gave appointment letters to 20 children of freedom fighters under the Home Department scheme last week and that only 40 children are remaining.
“Our government has fulfilled the promise of giving jobs to children of freedom fighters. So far 357 appointment letters have been given to them under the scheme and only 40 children are remaining. Once they are given appointment letters, it will be presumed that the government gave jobs to approximately 400 children of freedom fighters.
Even a 55-year-old son of a freedom fighter was provided with government job, according to Sawant.
Earlier, Alemao said that the government had failed to give jobs to children of freedom fighters despite formulating a scheme.
He further called for an inquiry into the renovation of Lohia Maidan at Margao and urged the government to declare historic Lohia Maidan, Azad Maidan, Panjim, Memorial at Patradevi and the one at Assolna as State monuments.
