The session will be approximately 21 or 22 days: CM

PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly will commence from July 15 and continue till August 9.

Addressing a press conference at Mantralaya at Porvorim, Sawant said the State cabinet has decided to convene the monsoon session of the Assembly from July 15, and it will culminate in the second week of August.

“It will be a full length session. There is no question of curtailing it. It will of approximately 21 or 22 days,” Chief Minister  said.

The budget session of the State Legislative Assembly was held between February 2 and 10 this year.

In the past, the State government has been at the receiving end and criticised by the opposition parties for curtailing the days of Assembly session.

The Chief Minister had presented his annual financial statement (budget) for the year 2024-25 on February 8. The six-day budget session of the State Assembly had commenced from February 2, with the customary address by Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai.

However, it was decided not to transact business on February 6 in view of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the State and instead extend the duration of the session by a day. The Demands for Grants for the current financial year will be discussed and passed during the monsoon session.
