VALPOI: Under the National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme (NREGA) the village panchayat Savordem in Valpoi, has started the work of cleaning the gutters and bush cutting in all nine wards of Panchayat.
This scheme is to provide jobs to rural people and men and women are paid Rs 240 per day. The total population of this panchayat is 3024 and does not have any source of income. There are a total of nine wards and almost 60% of literate youth in this panchayat is unemployed.
The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act aims at enhancing the livelihood security of people in the rural area by guaranteeing a hundred days of wage employment in a financial year to a rural house hold whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work. Under this scheme the various facilities are given to ST, SC, OBC and also General category people. This was revealed by Sushant F Kesarkar, the Gram Rojgar Sahajag.
