MARGAO: The absence of the Aquem Baixo Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch at the gram sabha made the members furious forcing them
to walk out of the meeting after objecting to the manner in which the panchayat body was handling village issues.
While the panchayat secretary was trying to go ahead with the gram sabha citing the rules, the annoyed villagers were in no mood to listen to himand directed him to adjourn the meeting to next Sunday and members staged a walk-out.
Speaking to the media, the villagers stated that they have asked for the gram sabha to be held on the following Sunday and demanded that the Panchayat Department or the (Salcete) Block Development Office (BDO) takes cognizance of the panchayat’s alleged poor functioning and intervene immediately.
The villagers alleged that the panch members are only interested in who takes the post of Sarpanch and Deputy and are not bothered about the development of the village.
They took pot shots at the Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch for staying away from the meeting and stated that the villagers had planned to raise a lot of pending issues and were seeking responses from the duo on the action taken so far or rather to explain their inaction.
The locals referred to the trees that are not trimmed, which have caused accidents or the overflowing drains in the rains and said these issues have persisted despite the locals informing the panchayat about these issues 8 months ago.
