Furtado asks CM to shift all govt offices from Panjim to EDC Plaza

PANJIM: The CCP mayor Surendra Furtado has written to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar - who is also the Panjim MLA - asking him to pass a resolution at the next cabinet meeting to shift all the government offices from Panjim to EDC Plaza, at Patto; to lay the foundation stone of the same and earmark sufficient land and complete the construction within three years.

PANJIM: The CCP mayor Surendra Furtado has written to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar – who is also the Panjim MLA – asking him to pass a resolution at the next cabinet meeting to shift all the government offices from Panjim to EDC Plaza, at Patto; to lay the foundation stone of the same and earmark sufficient land and complete the construction within three years. 
He also wanted the government to increase the captive parking in all commercial and residential complexes being constructed in the city and wanted the government to amend the Goa Land Development and Building Construction Regulations, 2010.
“A proposal to this effect has already been sent to the Chief Town Planner, Government of Goa on 19-06-2013,” the mayor said adding, “I hope that you will agree that the only way to reduce congestion in Panjim city is to ensure that all residential and commercial complexes coming up in future in Panjim be made to compulsorily have parking provisions as well as to shift all government offices from the city to EDC Plaza, Patto.”
Stating that at the Ordinary Meeting of the Corporation of the City of Panjim, (31-07-2013) a resolution was passed that as there was increasing vehicular traffic in the City due to “increasing population as well as increase in the number of tourists in the city” one solution to the problem was to “…to increase the off-street parking spaces in the commercial and residential complexes being constructed in Panjim city for which amendment of the Goa Land Development and Building Construction Regulations, 2010 is required and a proposal to this effect has already been sent to the Chief Town Planner, Government of Goa on 19-06-2013.’ And also “To supplement the said proposal and solve parking problem, I hereby request you to find alternate sites to shift all the Government Offices from the Panjim city either to EDC Plaza, Patto, Panjim as is the case in the South Goa Collectorate in Margao.”
