The people in Davorlim demanded 50 per cent reservation in the houses of Housing Board because they claim that the locals never get a chance to win houses for themselves in their own village. Furtado, while addressing the issue said “I will take up the matter at the cabinet and discuss the possibility of one such reform in allotment procedures.” Furtado has also assured of evicting the illegal occupants of the Housing Board houses in Rumdamol Davorlim.
While the minister and chairman of the Housing Board were announcing a bigger housing project at Rumdamol, former panch, Damu Naik raised the question of garbage disposal and the area allotted to it in the village. Neither the minister, nor the panchayat members had an answer for it. The Rumdamol Panchayat puts up for 15 metric tonnes of mixed garbage everyday and all of it is dumped in an open place and burnt at night. Sadly the Panchayat is actively allowing new households but has no garbage disposal plans.
The High Court has recently ordered the removal of scrap yards at Rumdamol and the plan to shift them to Verna is in the pipeline. Tuenkar has expressed the need for houses for needy residents of Davorlim.
