PANJIM: Panjim Mayor Surendra Furtado is set to get another term.
On Monday, former St Cruz MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate held a meeting with his 16 councillors of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), where it was decided to re-nominate Furtado as Mayor and Lata Parekh as Deputy Mayor.
The elections to the two posts will be held on Wednesday, with the nomination date being Tuesday.
The Monserrate camp has 16 councillors while the BJP has 14 councillors in the CCP. The BJP is trying to break through the unity of the Monserrate camp and is eyeing the two top positions; however, it is yet to announce the names of its nominees.
