G-7 tactics to extract more space:Parrikar

PANJIM, MARCH 19
“Nothing is going to happen, it is their pressure tactics”, remarked Leader of the Opposition Manohar Parrikar while reacting to boycott of cabinet meeting by G-7 members.
Saying this is a tactic to extract more space for themselves in the
Government, Parrikar absolutely ruled out any kind of danger to the government during the one-week long Budget session of the Goa assembly beginning Monday.
He was speaking at a press conference held at Assembly Complex in Porvorim Friday afternoon after the legislative wing had a meeting to discuss issues which the BJP will raise in the assembly.
Responding to a question what would be his party’s stand in the event Kamat-led government collapse, Parrikar’s only reply was “nothing will happen,” however he said, his party is ready to face polls. “We are preparing for elections,” he said further adding what is happening currently is “internal fight” and they see no reason to intervene.
Analysts say this is the stand the BJP has taken in view of the political situation as of now.
If the G-7 MLAs really go ahead and vote against the money bill – Budget – their stand will obviously change. In other words, if the government falls in the event of the Budget Bill getting defeated on the floor of the House, BJP will be the prime player and will hold the key to the situation that will arise next.
Then, there will be two options: One, is to extend support to G-7 and the other is to join the government as they did to Francisco Sardinha-led government in 1999 before bringing it down eleven months later.
However, much depends upon whether the G-7 will stick to their threat and also on what stand the NCP central leadership takes on the issue.
