PANJIM: Goencho Avaaz has given a call for united opposition to provide a strong alternative to Dr Pramod Sawant-led BJP government in the coming 2022 election.
Addressing mediapersons on Sunday, Goencho Avaaz convenor Capt Viriato Fernandes appealed to people of Goa, irrespective of party affiliation, caste, creed, religion and differences including the MLAs, to unite and throw out the “weak” BJP government.
“The people of Goa are wondering as to when this bad, destructive phase through which our mankule Goa is passing through, due to a weak government headed by a beleaguered, self-centred Chief Minister will come to an end,” he asked.
Fernandes charged that the Chief Minister is totally at the mercy of a Centre, controlled and run by “crony” capitalists and is ready to compromise State interest to save his chair and position.
He pointed out how the BJP government is out for wholesale of Goa on issues like Mhadei River diversion, surrendering coastline to MPT for exploitation, coal transportation, casino, etc.
Referring to the Chief Minister’s recent statements in Sindhudurg, Goencho Avaaz expressed disgust over the comment, where the former said the State can never be Swayampurna. The NGO appealed CM to stop issuing immature, ill-informed and stupid statements.
“The statement, wherein he said that Goa will continue to be dependent on Sindhudurg and other neighbouring regions for its essential supplies, has not only belittled the image of Goa but also exposed the lack of vision on the part of the beleaguered government, caught in scams, self-created controversies and power struggle within the government,” he charged.
Fernandes charged that the statement is in complete contradiction to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for Atmanirbhar Bharat.
The NGO said that CM’s claim that upcoming Mopa airport will also benefit the Sindhudurg district, is with lack of knowledge, as the region already has Chipi airport, which is set to be commissioned soon.
