Panjim: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate the cables stayed six lane new bridge over river River Mandovi on January 27.
BJP President Vinay Tendulkar said that Gadkari has confirmed his visit to Goa to inaugurate the bridge. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not be coming for the Bridge inauguration,” he said.
The bridge, constructed by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), will be inaugurated Sunday evening.
The 5.13mtrs long bridge, constructed by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) limited, is built at a cost of Rs 482 crore. The foundation stone for the project was laid by Prime Minister in June, 2014, soon after forming NDA government at the Centre.
Initially, the bridge was to be inaugurated in March 2017 but due to litigations and financial issues the bridge completion was delayed.
Once the bridge is inaugurated, vehicles from Mapusa proceeding towards Margao, Vasco and Ponda can take the new bridge and vice versa.
