PANJIM: Union Minister for Surface Transport Nitin Gadkari will lay the foundation stone for the six-lane Zuari bridge and long-pending Galjibaga-Talpona bridge on December 19.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday morning met the Union minister with an invitation to inaugurate the two bridges as also the Mashem bridge and Margao bypass.
Last month, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had floated the first tender for the new Zuari bridge at an estimated cost of Rs 850 crore. Two more tenders are expected soon.
The Central government earlier this year had sanctioned Rs 1100 crore for the entire project, whose estimated cost is around Rs 1500 crore. The State has finalized a one-km-long alignment that will have a five-km-long flyover. The proposed bridge will be constructed over the existing Railway Bridge according to PWD officials.
The PWD had two months back published tenders for the Rs 300 crore Talpona-Galjibaga bridge.
