PANJIM: The Gawada Kunbi Velip and Dhangar (GAKUVED) Federation has congratulated Babu Gaonkar from Netravali, Sanguem for clinching the first gold medal for Goa in “Modern Pentathlon (laser run)” game in the ongoing 37th National Games at Goa.
Gaonkar belongs to tribal farmer family and resides at Varangani-Netravali village in Sanguem taluka.
“Gaonkar has brought laurels to Goa and its a proud moment for the entire State. In spite of living in remote Netravali village, he has overcome all challenges and proved that person from the indigenous community can excel at national level if provided proper guidance and support. He has set an example and is an inspiration to all youth specially those living in tribal villages who feel that they cannot compete at national level due to lack of support,” said GAKUVED Federation general secretary Rupesh Velip.
Wishing Gaonkar all the best to excel and bag gold medal at the international level, the GAKUVED Federation has appealed to the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) specially Sports Minister Govind Gaude to provide him all possible financial support and backing so that he get an opportunity at the international level to perform and bring gold medal for the nation.
Velip has also congratulated Gaonkar’s parents, family members and coach for his success and added that all such talented youth need all round support to groom skills, perform-win and bring laurels to Goa and country.
