GAKUVED: Issue sanads to Kumeri cultivators in 30 days

MARGAO: Gawada, Kunbi, Velip and Dhangar Federation (GAKUVED) on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to South Goa Collector demanding that sanads be issued to the Kumeri cultivators of Gaondongorim and Khola areas of Canacona taluka at the earliest or face agitation if the demand is not met within 30 days.

A delegation led by Rupesh Velip, General Secretary GAKUVED, and others met District Collector Ruchika Katyal.

Speaking to media persons, Rupesh said they have brought to the notice of the government that the Kumeri land of the above areas was distributed/allotted to cultivators in 1964 by a committee consisting of mamlatdar of concerned taluka and range forest officer for cashew, mango, jackfruit and other cultivation.

“The cultivators are now in possession of allotted land and their cultivation is the only source of their livelihood”, he said.

He said applications for the grant of government land were submitted to the South Collector through Canacona Mamlatdar in November 1988.

“From the facts, inquiries, verifications and final reports given by mamlatdar and deputy collector, it is crystal clear that the Kumeri cultivators are occupants of the said land”, he added.

He said the GAKUVED protests and resists this infringement of the fundamental rights of their community members.
