GAKUVED issues 7-day ultimatum to govt for notifying reservation of 4 assembly seats for STs

PANJIM: GAKUVED (Gawada, Kunbi, Velip and Dhangar) Federation on Thursday gave a seven days ultimatum to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on the reservation of four constituencies for Scheduled Tribes (ST) communities in the State Assembly.

The Federation also warned of appropriate action in case an Ordinance for reserving four seats in Goa Assembly is not issued within seven days.

It said said that the next course of action would be decided if the double engine governments fails to respond within seven days.

“If the Modi government is serious about its word given to us, it can come up with an Ordinance even overnight, directing the Election Commission to decide about Goa,” the Federation said.

Addressing a press conference at Panjim, GAKUVED Federation general secretary Rupesh Velip, said, “When Mission for Political Reservation had taken out a morcha, then Chief Minister had given an assurance to us that an all-party delegation will meet the Union Minister regarding the issue. A delegation met Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda who gave an assurance that the Delimitation Commission will be constituted, but it is not under that Ministry. We had hoped that the delegation will meet the Home Minister and he will find a solution. The delegation also could not meet Union Minister for Law Arjun Ram Meghawal.”

“We have been demanding that the notification should be issued before Lok Sabha elections but nothing has happened,” he said.
