GAKUVED, Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribals not happy with cabinet decision

Move has taken the entire process of Reservation to square one

Expressing displeasure over the decision of the Union Cabinet and Goa government of “Readjustment” the oldest organisation working for the rights of Scheduled Tribals in Goa GAKUVED has said that this has taken the entire process of granting ST Reservation reverse. GAKUVED says that the Reservation demand has gone back to square one as there is a huge process that needs to be completed here on.

“We are not happy with the move” said GAKUVED Secretary and Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribes representative Rupesh Velip. “This Cabinet approval for introduction of the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024, simply means it will now have to be sent to the Parliament for ascent, further to several statutory bodies which is going to take a lot of time” he added.

“With this move ST Reservation is not happening till 2030” Velip said.

On Thursday, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the proposal of the Ministry of Law & Justice for introduction of the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024 in Parliament.

The approval empowers the Parliament to enact a law to provide for enabling provisions empowering the Election Commission to make amendments in the Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies Order, 2008 and readjust the seats in the Legislative Assembly of the State of Goa for the Scheduled Tribes of the State.

Adv John Fernandes from Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribals said that there is no intention to grant any reservation to the Tribals of Goa.
