GUIRIM: The stretch leading to an immersion spot at Guirim was specially illuminated few days before the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi.
The work of illuminating the stretch where the locals immerse Ganesh idols was taken up by the local panchayat with the help of the local MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar.
During an inspection it was also noticed that the people use a small bridge that is narrow and deprived of proper lighting to carry out immersion. Due to the ongoing work of the widening of the National Highway from Hotel Green Park junction at Guirim onwards, the area was in darkness due to the electricity poles being pulled down.
The residents of that area would face a lot of difficulties especially during the immersion of Ganesh idols, hence, the local panchayat and MLA decided to carry out the illumination work on the stretch.
“The de-silting of the rivulet will also be taken up. There was a high mast at this junction which was removed due to the ongoing highway expansion work. Hence, we thought there was a need to illuminate the area near the immersion spot at Guirim. At the same time all the unwanted material dumped along of the national highway located close to rivulet will be cleared,” the MLA said.
