MAPUSA: Residents of Ganeshpuri-Mapusa have raised concern over the stray dog menace in the vicinity. They claimed that there are over 50 stray dogs, who move around and spread fear among pedestrians and two-wheeler riders.
They said that it has become difficult for them to move out of their houses as the dogs suddenly attack from nowhere, and especially chase motorbikes or scooters and pedestrians.
They pointed out that several incidents of dog bites have occurred here in the last few months.
“The stray dogs chase two-wheeler riders and pedestrians. The authorities concerned should look into the menace as this has become a major concern. These dogs were caught, sterilised and released back in the vicinity. People especially senior citizens have to carry sticks to protect themselves,” a resident stated.
“The government authorities should act immediately to control this menace. Last time a dog bit a pregnant woman creating a major scare. We are under constant fear of being attacked by the dogs any time of the day or even during the night,” another resident said.
Residents pointed out that if anyone new came to stay in the area, they would definitely attack them. There are a number of dogs in every lane of the area,” another woman narrated.
