Gang robs tourist at knifepoint in Panjim

Cops chase robbers, two UP natives arrested, others escape

PANJIM: Panjim police on Christmas night busted a gang of robbers, arresting two persons from Uttar Pradesh while two others are still at large. 
According to Panjim Police the robbers held a tourist from Karad, Maharashtra at knifepoint in St Inez and snatched cash Rs 17,000 and a bracelet priced at about Rs 1 lakh.
Two IRB constables Sachin Harmalkar and Rupesh Kale who were on the duty near the spot where the crime took place noticed the scuffle and chased the robbers. Senior police constable Shekhar Amonkar who was approaching from the opposite side saw the chase and was able to catch two of the robbers, while two others escaped.
Panjim police have arrested Manish Rai (22) and Abhishek Rai (24) of UP and residents of Colvale. The stolen items were recovered from the duo and both have been remanded to five days police custody.
Panjim Police Inspector Siddhant Shirodkar said all three policemen have been recommended for an award from the department.
