Ganjem-Usgao hit by acute water shortage for the past three days

PONDA: The residents of Ganjem-Usgao, have been facing an acute water shortage for the past three days due to a malfunctioning pump on the Mhadei River bhandara and have threatened to stage an agitation near the under construction site of 25 MLD treatment plant if their demands are not met.

The locals complained that despite the presence of three bore wells in the village, the Public Works Department (PWD) has not installed pumps to supply water due to which, they are compelled to rely on rainwater for their daily needs.

They further said that the newly-constructed water treatment plant is expected to provide water to Ganjem and Priol areas, but the PWD has failed to supply water even for two hours daily.

Speaking to reporters, the aggrieved locals along with Panch member Narendra Gaonkar said that they are facing acute water shortage each year during monsoon. Water is supplied to them by installing a pump on the River Mhadei bhandara. As the river water becomes turbid during monsoon, the pump malfunctions, affecting the water supply.

They have threatened to stage agitation near the under construction site of 25 MLD treatment plant at Ganjem Usgao, on Monday, if clean water is not supplied to them.
