CANACONA: Canacona police on Tuesday arrested a youth from Gaondogrem for allegedly sexually assaulting a girl from Canacona on different occasions on the false pretext of marrying her.
In what turned out to be a sour relationship, a girl of 21 years from Canacona has filed a complaint at the Canacona police station alleging that she was sexually assaulted on many occasions by the accused, a youth of 20 years from Fulamol in Gaondogrem.
On the basis of the complaint, Canacona police have registered an offence against the accused and placed him under arrest since Tuesday evening.
Police said that the complainant and the accused were in a relationship and the boy had assured to marry her.
On knowing that the girl is pregnant the accused developed cold feet and deserted, her sources said.
When the attempts by the family members to convince the boy to marry the victim didn’t materialise into any concrete decision, the girl lodged a complaint against the boy.
Police said that the accused is arrested under Section 376 of IPC by following Supreme Court guidelines and is remanded in police custody for 5 days by Judicial Magistrate First Class.
Canacona PI Sudesh Narvekar said that the complainant was sent for medical examination at GMC on Wednesday who have confirmed that she is one and half month pregnant while the accused will be sent for medical examination on Thursday.
The case is being investigated further by PSI Ramesh Shirodkar under the supervision of PI Sudesh Narvekar.
