CANACONA: Residents of Gaondongrem on Sunday expressed outrage amid allegations that funds of Rs 57 lakh for the development of a village school playground had been diverted to a private school in another village.
At a gram sabha on Sunday, two residents pointed out that the Sports Authority of Goa had floated a tender notice dated November 19, 2013 for the development of the Gaondongrim Village government high school playground at an estimated cost of Rs 57.01 lakh.
They, however, alleged that the work in reality was being taken up at Amone-Poinguinim. The residents claimed that this was an injustice to the people of Gaondongrem, since funds for a playground is the village was being diverted elsewhere in the taluka.
Residents also demanded that the panchayat should come forward to offer suitable financial aid to the families of two workers who had been killed in the Ruby Residency tragedy.
Besides the sarpanch, Umesh Velip, seven other panchas were present at the meeting.
