CANACONA: Canacona Police arrested a 57-year-old man from Gaondongrim-Canacona in connection with the brutal murder of a 44-year-old widow from the same village.
It may be recalled that Shrimati Mono Gaonkar was found brutally murdered in a forest at Gaondongrem-Canacona on Aug 23.
According to sources, the decade-old relationship between the accused, Ganesh alias Bhau Gaonkar, and the victim, Shrimati, had turned sour and police suspect that it may have been the reason for the murder.
According to Canacona PI Harischandra Madkaikar, accused Ganesh alias Bhau Gaonkar confessed to the crime and the weapons used to murder the woman have been attached and investigation is in progress.
The widow, who had benefited financially from accused, had ditched him for someone else. The accused then demanded his money, but she refused. PI Madkaikar said investigations are still in progress.
