MARGAO: Councillor Damodar Shirodkar of ward 21 Margao Municipal Council along with locals has expressed frustrations as the ring road area of Margao turning into a garbage dump yard. Locals have asked the civic body to clear the site at the earliest and warned failing so they would dump the said garbage in front of the municipal building.
“We will lift the garbage from here and dump it in front of the municipal building if civic body failed to clear the area,” the councillor said.
However, Lyndon Pereira, chairperson of the civic body has assured to clear the area immediately, as on Thursday he inspected the area in the presence of Vice-Chairperson Dipali Sawal, local councillor Damodar Shirodkar, and concerned municipal engineer.
Chairperson Lyndon assured that garbage will be cleared at the earliest. “On the request of councillor we inspected the area. We don’t know who has dumped this garbage of debris, woods and other waste over here, however, will clear it at the earliest”, he stated.
He said that the civic body will take the initiative to install the CCTV cameras in order to trap the accused involved in dumping the garbage.
Speaking to the media Damodar said that suddenly they noticed the garbage being dumped over here, creating a total nuisance. “In order to get away with such type of nuisance at the ring road, local MLA Digambar Kamat had decided to build a jogging park and a new over the bridge has been sanctioned over it. However, in recent days we have noticed that some unknown persons dumped garbage on both sides of the road”, he informed.
Councillor has given 20 days deadline to the MMC to lift the garbage or be ready to face the consequences.
