Garbage issues plague Curchorem market

In spite of several requests made by Curchorem MLA, Nilesh Cabral not to throw garbage on the street, it looks like some people/authorities are not serious about it and are turning a deaf ear.

The concerned authorities are also not bothered about the garbage. In spite of providing several litter bins in the market, the waste of vegetables/fruit which is rotten is dumped outside instead of in the bins which are kept at the entrance of the newly constructed vendor zone by the Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council in the GSUDA market.
People visiting the area complain of a foul smell emanating from the carelessly dumped waste.
Speaking to Herald, former CCMC councillor, Manohar Naik said that by seeing the condition of the market it looks like the authorities are not functioning at all. “It is the responsibility of the market inspector of the CCMC and sanitary inspector from the government hospital, Kakoda to visit the market every day and to see the condition of the market. Then they have to act accordingly but nobody seems to be bothered about sanitation,” said Naik as he blamed the concerned authorities for depending totally on the services provided by the local MLA to clear the garbage.
When contacted, Cabral informed that from day one of his election as MLA he had given top priority to keep the entire area clean. “In spite of my repeated requests, if some people/vendors do not cooperate, what more I can do? At my own cost I am collecting door-to-door garbage. At least the municipality and other concerned officials must concentrate on the market area and must work to keep the city clean” said Cabral.
