PONDA: The road leading to inter-State KTC bus stand, Ponda greet tourists with unpleasant look. It’s now many years, this scene is prevailing but now the garbage dump which is gradually turning into a mountain is giving the roadside an ugly look.
Ponda and Bandora locals want the Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) to clear the garbage menace.
Around hundred metres stretch of road leading to KTC bus stand has become a garbage dumping black spot. Garbage of all kind, including liquor bottles and construction waste, is dumped on this stretch, 150 metres away from the stand.
Since it is an inter-State bus stand with several buses plying from this bus stand located on the Ponda-Panjim route, the Bandora and Ponda locals want the garbage dumping be resolved and the waste removed immediately. At present, there are at least three black spots in the panchayat area, including Ponda KTC bus stand.
This particular stretch is located from the road leading from KTC to GVM circle. The college and higher secondary students daily walk on this road towards KTC bus stand and are forced to bear the foul smell. The KTC bus stand is located in Bandora Panchayat.
“We hope that in the near future the panchayat will acquire a site for garbage disposal. Garbage is a major problem affecting all of us,” said one panch.
