FATRADE-VARCA: Elected representatives from the Salcete coastal belt on Sunday urged the authorities especially the Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral and the tourism department to prevent the degradation of the environment as tonnes of mixed garbage was washed ashore in Fatrade, Varca.
Benaulim AAP ZP member Hanzel Fernandes said, “On Saturday morning, this garbage was washed ashore on Fatrade beach. The traditional fishermen found the garbage spilled onto the beach. I would request the tourism department to look into this matter.”
Varca sarpanch Crossly Charlton Lourenco said, “It is terrible to see the beach scattered with dirt and garbage. In fact, we all humans are responsible for it and it is nature’s way of showing its anger by letting it out. It’s high time that we take care of our nature and our surroundings.”
Carmona Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge said, “The entire beach from Varca to Cavelossim has been littered with tonnes of garbage. This garbage is not from any village. I believe it has come with the high tide as somebody has dumped it elsewhere in Goa.”
