MARGAO: Housewives and several citizens in Salcete demanded a roll-back in the gas price hike and hit out at the government for increasing the rates of cooking gas when food, essential commodities and loans have all gotten more expensive.
Speaking to O Heraldo, they charged the government for adding more burdens on them at the time people are facing tough times due to inflation.
It is pertinent to note that cooking gas LPG price on Wednesday was hiked by Rs 50 per cylinder-the first increase in rates in almost eight months-that came within days of end of polling in three North-Eastern states.
Several political leaders from the Opposition parties already criticised the government for the LPG price hike.
AAP leader and Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas said that LPG cylinder price has been hiked and power tariff will also increase from April 1.
“Prices consumer goods are hitting the sky and the power-drunk double engine of the BJP cares a damn. It’s one year now and where are the free LPG cylinders that BJP government had promised in the election manifesto?” he questioned the government.
Sebastiana Colaco a housewife from Nuvem challenged the government and the Ministers to come out from the air conditioned cabines and feel the practical wherein the common man was struggling to make two ends meet.
“The source of income has been reduced, however, the increase in price of essential commodities has made life difficult for the people”, she said.
Sarika Shridokar, another housewife from Salcete, charged the government for failing to lower the burden of the people.
“The approach of the government seems to be different as compared to what was promised. We don’t feel that the government is for the people, as common man are made to struggle,” she stated.
It is pertinent to note that people across the State are expressing anger over the hike in LPG gas cylinders on social media too.
A day before, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao reacted sharply to the price hike on domestic and commercial LPG cylinders and stated that even frying pakoras will be difficult for educated unemployed youth.
