Gaude promises action on public grievances during Chandor visit

CHANDOR: During a surprise visit on Tuesday, Sports Minister Govind Gaude, along with officials of PWD, WRD, Sports, and Electricity Department, interacted with residents of Chandor-Cavorim, Guirdolim, and Macasana villages, located in the Cuncolim Assembly constituency.

However, local MLA and Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao was conspicuous by his absence.

The Minister assured Chandor-Cavorim Sarpanch Estefanio Dias that the football ground in the village would be carpeted with a lawn and also said he would enquire if Teqball could be introduced in Chandor. Gaude also directed WRD to investigate the complaint of polluting stormwater drain by open defecation.

Stating that the Collector is acting to stop heavy vehicles plying through the village, he promised to speak to the police to intensify patrolling to curb alcohol consumption in open spaces.

The Sarpanch had also asked

for nets to be installed along the bridges over Kushawati river from where miscreants throw garbage into the river.

Following various complaints of bad roads, absence of notified speed breakers, he asked PWD officials to attend to them.

“I request the panchayat to give me the resolution regarding traffic over the new railway bridge,” said Gaude as people complained of not only increased traffic but also speeding and fatal accidents.

He also promised to speak to authorities to enable people to lodge complaints at the Chandor Police Outpost.

“I request you to bear till the Lok Sabha elections are held, but after that, I promise that no panchayat staff shall be given BLO duty,” he said when it was pointed out that panchayat functioning is adversely affected because of this.

Irregular drinking water supply, lack of water from Paroda canal for irrigation, construction of a road under the railway track, non-functioning street lights, disappearance of Macasana lake, non-functioning sluice gate, and landlocked houses were some of the other issues raised by the people.
