PANJIM: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher secondary education (GBSHSE) and Goa state biodiversity board (GSBB) on Wednesday promoted awareness among student community with regards to biodiversity and its importance for human well being.
The MOU was signed by Goa Board chairman Bhagirath Shetye and GSBB member secretary Pradeep Sarmokadam in presence of Minister for Environment Nilesh Cabral.
Shetye said that the project will primarily benefit 400 high schools ( STD IX-X) and 105 higher secondary schools affiliated to GBSHSE with more than one lakh students who later enter the colleges under Goa University.
“Goa is a first State in the country to have a collaboration covering one lakh students to promote biodiversity,” he said.
Shetye said that the location of these 500 educational institutions will immensely benefit 191 village panchayat level Biodiversity management committees and 13 municipal level committees.
