PANJIM: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has begun the process of updating its ‘voters list’ as it braces up to hold elections of the members of the Board in July.
The Board headed by Chairman J R Rebello’s term ends in September and as such, it has asked the members to submit their names by March 15 to update the list. “Once the list is ready, the nomination process for the four-year term would begin. The data needs to be revised as some might have retired by now and they cannot be a part of the election process,” the chairman told Herald.
Besides the Chairman, the elected members on the Board will consist of four principals – two each from both the districts, two representatives from Vocational stream, two grade-I teachers from higher secondary schools, six headmaster of secondary schools, six high school teachers and two management representatives.
As per the rules laid down in the Goa Board’s election procedure, a President/Chairman should be of the educational Society/Trust, and not of any School Managing Committee.  Besides the elected members, the Board will thereafter approach the Goa government to ‘constitute assembly’ to nominate two legislators on the panel in addition to two representatives from Goa University Academic Council and ex-officio members.
The election to the GBSHSE is similar on the lines with assembly elections. The schedule of the election comprises of nomination of candidates, scrutiny of nominations, withdrawal of candidatures, recording of votes and finally the counting.
